The intensive mediation course at the Diplomatic Academy focuses on preparing participants for participation in and leading negotiations.
The main emphasis is placed on the primary form of alternative dispute resolution in the Czech Republic – mediation. Courts increasingly rely on out-of-court settlements not only in neighborhood and family disputes but also in commercial and employment-related conflicts. Mediation is thus becoming an increasingly sought-after method for resolving disputes. As an informal process that does not require adherence to formal procedures or rules, mediation closely resembles practical negotiation, which is also covered in this course.
By combining psychological, legal, and sociological foundations of mediation, this interdisciplinary course is designed to provide practical mastery of both mediation and negotiation techniques, equipping graduates with immediately applicable skills upon completion of their studies. The primary objective is to train participants in empathy and psychology, which are essential prerequisites for successful mediation. Graduates are also guided in seeking alternative solutions, rationally assessing potential agreements, and maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
